Bill Mellett, Photographer

Photography has been a long-time passion of mine but, I didn’t know how much of a passion it was until the birth of my two kids.

My kids have grown up very used to having a camera in their face constantly. Their childhood has been dutifully documented with images. Now that my kids are teenagers, the photos of them growing up over the years are now especially precious and I’m really glad that I have them. I hope one day that they appreciate their dad being a constant snap-happy shutter bug nerd over all those years and even more so today.

As I approach the mid point in my career, I’ve examined what it is that I have been spending my time at versus the amount of time spent working at the things that bring me the most personal satisfaction. Photography is something that brings me a lot of true satisfaction for a variety of reasons. For that reason I chose to make it an even bigger part of my life by making the big leap into pursuing it as a business instead of just a hobby.

My commitment is to grow to the best of my ability as a photographer artist and to grow my photography business one happy customer at a time.

One thing that I like to think that I do well is to focus on my customer. When I am shooting a customer or their photo subject then during that period there is little else in the world that I’m thinking about. I want to deliver an outstanding product both for myself as well as the client.

This also carries through to the post-processing. I’ve listened to some unhappy clients of other photographers. I believe that my customer has the right to expect a timely turnaround. I’ll try my best to set a reasonable target date to deliver the final products and then do whatever it takes to at least meet that deadline.

I believe that communication is paramount in photographing for customers. I like to have a dialog with my customer to try and create the best possible situation in order to meet my client’s objective. I think that every customer has the right to be as fully informed as they choose to be, especially because they have invested a lot of money on professional quality images.

Anyway, that’s basically my artistic and businesses philosophy in a nutshell.
